Together with some friends, dinner was at Piccolo’s on Friday night, perfect for some juicy red meat (and my obligatory garlic bread piccante). It had been a while and Hassan and the guys in the kitchen still delivered their magic, winning the eaterie three new fans who’d be happy to be back. Despite being filled to the brim, we had some space for the superb choc fudge cake, ice cream and pancake.

And what better way to round up the evening with a film. I bought The Raid (Serbuan Maut) on blu-ray a while back and this was a perfect boys’ night out movie. Iko Uwais’ previous outing on Merantau was a fresh martial arts film which introduced pencak silat (this film had silat harimau from Minangkabau) to the Western film-going masses. The Raid on the other hand was one up, with more action within the first 20 minutes and more violent to boot (rated 18 as opposed to Merantau‘s 15). The basic premise was a SWAT team infiltrating a claustrophobic apartment tower block which houses a bunch of hoodlums and their drug-making facility, led by the ruthless Tama (Ray Sahetapy). Rama (Iko Uwais) is a member of the SWAT team that survived the onslaught along with a handful of his team-mates trapped in the building.

The whole film was akin to a third-person view shoot ’em up PS3 game. The fight scenes this time were faster and more fluid. We quickly went back to see the fight scenes in Merantau after finishing the film, and the fight scenes then did appear a bit contrived. Not much plot, but we didn’t watch it for one. Highly recommended!

I spent a good couple of hours doing the kitchen floor today and I am so happy with the result.

Boleh golek-golek one.

Talking about golek-golek, I finally finished watching Hotaru no Hikari 2. They were dragging it a bit with the himono onna antics with Ayase Haruka but with the film out recently, we will see a conclusion to this.
