I recently bought Wasabi, a 2001 film produced by Luc Besson, which sums up the term action-comedy that can seem almost wayang Melayu (probably because it wasn’t Besson who directed). At £3.49, it wasn’t a wasted investment for my world cinema collection that is a shelf wide. Here you’ll see a young(er) Hirosue Ryōko (*sigh* yes, the wife from Departures [おくりびと] that won best foreign language film Oscar in 2009) trying to say the word trou (French for ‘hole’) with the correct accent.
Trivia: Hirosue-san doesn’t speak French. She actually learnt her lines phonetically.
