For the first time in ages, I braved the maddening Sunday crowd at IKEA near Notts. They actually shut at ten on weekdays but no way do I feel like driving down after work. Anyways, following some rough conceptual designs I made recently, I had to go get some idea what’s in store for me to get the thing done.

I was thinking of designing the kitchen of my dreams and then paring it down once I see the full price. Some people had said it was a stupid way of doing things but if I set a budget in stone then I have to go with what I could get within that budget which makes sense but only if I like what I’d be getting for that price. You follow, so far?

They’ve this nifty do it yourself 3D design programme available online but I was told by the floor staff that it works only on PCs and not on Macs. Like, WTF right? But a quick look at the website, there appears to be plugin for us Mac users. C’mon la – benda design 3D tak boleh guna Mac OSX is like, err… nak drive laju kat race track tak boleh guna Ferrari.

The worst case scenario is to just use the current carcass of the units in my kitchen this very moment and change the tops, sink, hood and cooker (which mean getting a freestanding one as opposed to the separate hob and standalone eye-level oven). Thus far, the price for everything is scaring me shitless although I think I can afford a gedegang one, although I need some spare cash for my October Japan trip. And some to kahwin if まみちゃん/miwa says hi and tells me she’s dying to kahwin lelaki Melayu. Like now.

I didn’t come out of IKEA emptyhanded as it was foolish to have driven so far and not get some stuff. I had pictures that required frames, some of which were purchased 4 years ago when I was in Paris. The problem with a lot of these posters are the odd sizes. Whilst the frame is not the problem, the mounting board sizes are somewhat fixed to a standard size. I am happy to go bespoke (which I have done many a time, especially for my Pearl Jam posters now hung in my media room/buangruang2). Although, I’ve just found out that my picture framing woes may come to an end with this site.

Bought some frames anyway and this was what I did last night:

There were others that I did last night. And I still cannot decide where to put them!
