I watched the first three episodes of this allegedly controversial anime by this morning and all I can say is…
… it is wholesome. A genius kid sister named Mihari added a few drops of a concoction into her shut-in eroge-loving elder brother, Mahiro’s soft drink which transforms him into her very own kid sister.
The word wholesome next to that sentence seemed jarring to you? If you like the comedic slice-of-life type in an animu, I think you may like it if you check Onimai out. Just leave your hat that says ‘judgmental’ on the hat rack.
What you’ll get is an endearing story about family – a girl missing her older brother, the dread a kid sister has experiencing her first period, a shut-in learning to socialise as his sister hopes he’ll be back to what he was like before – and I’m actually just describing the two main characters here in the first three epidodes.
I’ve never heard of studio Bind but the only other IP they make is Mushoku Tensei. The character design and the pastel-coloured visuals are pretty soft – just like what you see in the above key visual. I don’t recognise the seiyuus for the two MCs – Mahiro is voiced by Kōno Marika and Mihari by Ishihara Kaori who (after looking her up) is the seiyuu for Shōta-kun from Meidoragon.
I may not catch this on the dot every week but I think I’ll be interested to see where the story is going.
