I was supposed to have waited for this moment to wax lyrical on my new addition to the media room, but as we know it, when life throws you (a few) curveballs, things sometimes don’t go the way you want it to be.
The PS3 arrived a month ago today, and the first things I got were blu-ray films (has a familiar ring to it, I wonder what) at HMV – the obligatory Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen and a cheaply-priced Batman reboot combo pack. Ooh-ing and aah-ing over the moles on Miss Fox’s left lateral aspect of her mandible (that’s jaw to you common folks) was to no end, whenever someone comes around to the house to see the picture quality. The thing is my 32″ Samsung is a 720p, bought in the days when a screen has to be 40″ and above to be 1080p. Nevertheless, as my eyes aren’t as acute as the reviewers of What Hifi? Sound and Vision, we are still enthralled by Miss Fox’s lanugo hair behind her neck shimmering in the Californian sun. I will write more about this slim black 250GB machine in due course, not to worry.
I did buy a preowned game at Game, being the cheap sod I am – Star Wars: The Force Unleashed, which saw me killing cuddly wookiees at Kashhyyyk the moment Vader’s shuttle touch down on the ground. Awful computer animation, Lucasarts (probably because it was designed during the days of the PS2, perhaps). You people should learn a thing or two from the guys at SquareEnix (it was nice to let out your aggression throwing boulders and trees with the dark side of the Force, though). Which brings me to this…
At long last the moment I (and the salivating horde of FF-maniacs – you know you are one when you get Tweeter/MMS alerts from mates on the this day itself) have been waiting for, this came in the post. I have seen the promo for it on the FFVII:AC blu-ray disc and I was gobsmacked even then. Let alone at 5pm this afternoon, seeing/playing it in the flesh. The kiasu in me wanted to hesitate. Just play it for an hour and stop. Four hours later, I had to as my relentless playing without levelling up saw me dead at the second boss. The guide book hasn’t arrived yet, that’s why.

Paradigm shifts during battles. Levelling up using the Crystarium (anyone remember the Sphere Grid system on X?). Tenny[sic] action with Vanille. Okay, probably not that. And this weekend, I must finish XII. I can, really. It’s just that I’ve been delaying the inevitable thinking I should finish my 2nd last mark in the Sochen Cave Palace. And Ultima, and Zodiark. I’ll pass on Yiazmat kot.
Told you I’m kiasu.
