Did you know that pome dei moro is Spanish for Moor’s apple – a term which was originally used to describe all manner of tomatoes in Spain. However, tomatoes didn’t come from north Africa but originally come from South America, brought by Hernán Cortés (the same Cortez that conquered the Aztecs) to Europe in the 16th century.
