i was gonna give this entry a title that read ‘I got my bush trimmed’ but then decided against it, for obvious reasons. nevertheless, it all started with the hedge trimmed for the second time since i moved into the house. the previous owner hadn’t done anything to it and it was an eyesore somewhat (thankfully, no note from the neighbourhood association through the mailbox!). as alluded in a previous entry, the 2nd trim was ever so much nicer, as the shoots were green which meant the end product didn’t look too brown like last time.

when the gardener came around prior to the trimming job, i enquired if the decking in the backyard was salvageable. when i first moved in, i was considering to chuck it out and have grass instead. it wasn’t until this week when we had less rain that he came around with a mate and cleaned the decking with a powerful jet spray. the end result simply left me gobsmacked.

the piece de resistance was the appearance of the decking itself. the ‘dirt’ that accumulated was mostly lichen (lumut) and actually the wood used was still intact without any rot whatsoever. imagine how much dosh i had saved! to think i wanted to get rid of it.

one thing led to another and i’ve finally decided this summer’s house project will be the garden. besides, it is the house’s exterior which does appear somewhat run down and it would be nice to see it spruced up. the budget for the garden has gone down tremendously (it would have costed thousands to get rid of the entire structure of the decking, have soil chucked into the yard and start growing rumput).

the gardener won’t be able to start for the next couple of weeks as he’ll be trading down at glasto. this gives me the opportunity to do some homework and see what i’d like doing, specifically. watch this space!
