They are back. Back with good ol’ Mr. Borland. The band was just not the same without him. Imagine the ‘Stones without Keef or Aerosmith without Joe Perry. Heck, just look at G’n’R (shame on Axl for still calling the band that)! The new material sounds rawer. Sounds like they were recorded live. Gone are the hip-hop leanings. Can’t seem to hear DJ Lethal. In fact, where is DJ Lethal? The guitar tones are more guttural. At times, the stuff is reminiscent of those in the Three Dollar Bill$, Y’all album. Wes doesn’t seem to do any fanciful effects-laden guitarwork this time. His trademark whammy bar work is there though. Lyrics are somewhat cathartic. Just listen to The Channel. The Unquestionable Truth (Part 1) is a little on the small side, song quantity-wise. Sounds big. Let’s just see where Fred et al. are taking us with this.
Most importantly, great to see you back, Wes!
I was a closet Limp Bizkit fan all my life from three dollar bill$, y’all up till Chocolate Starfish, then they got all weird when Wes left.
It was obvious who was driving the band. A bit like what Frusciante is to RHCP, dontchathink?
matching org dgn guitar
the neon: closet LB fan takpe, jgn closet popshuvit fan. 😆
KT: semua hitam.
I had the opportunity to catch them live, and you’re right, although Durst might be the main singer, Borland’s the dude who gives the band its ‘soul’.
my only LB gig was many years ago, when they were still an opening act. saw them in wolverhampton, of all places, supporting soulfly (max cavalera’s current post-sepultura outfit).
wes mangan? wes… wes borland? wes… cayalah!!! he he… kudo, y jgn closet pop shuvit fan ek?
hehehe. saja buat lawak. you still with ROTTW, is it?
yup! still… have u read my version of enam ratus enam puluh enam jenis kemanisan in rottw 100th issue?
emmm
dont like LB lerr…hehe
didnt like them then, dont like them now…i mean, did anyone read Fred Durst’s blog…tiba2 je this guy goes all out indie and stuff..starts listening to sonic youth la bla2…hehe…smells like poseur trying to appeal to the inide crowd to me…
but i agree la..this wes borland has better musical taste than their singer…
LB for me has been about wes and his guitar work. and toy rabbit.
babi-ah. he shudda stayed in BDF je. LB sucky sucky long time. career suicide tell ya.
fake: funny how you’re not a LB fan but frequents Fred Durst’s blog. Hehehe. i didn’t even know he had one.
$weE+ 666: Pop Shuvit? C’monlah. Originality = zero.
I was in the car with a friend when their new single yang ada ‘…. fly with us’ tu came on. I was just ad-libbing a different string section (theirs was really flat and boring) a la Jamiroquai (baru proper disco, man!) and my friend said, ‘You should’ve written the strings for them’.
If my macai self can do it better, then God save us all. I’m honestly shite at music. When I listen to Butterfingers, on the other hand, I’d go, ‘Shit. That line is sooo good. Why can’t I think of something like that?’ So I’m not anti-Malaysian. And they’re so Limp Bizkit!!! Grow an identity lah. The LB bandwagon came and went fourteen years ago.
Just don’t get me started on Pop Shuvit lah. Or Disagree for that matter. Fucken… Arrgghghhhghh!!!
I was obviously kidding about The Shuvits. Ha. Ha. Ha.
They’re brilliant.
*wink*
nolah…i wasnt frequenting his blog lah….heheh
word got around in other forums when he started to “claim” he’s into all these indie stuff….so..out of curiosity i wnet and checked out his blog…
i forgot the url already…heh
originality? if we’re talking about originality here, most of indonesian band is ZERO for that matter… bertuhankan radiohead, weezer, the cure, and whatsoever… fuck! dont get me started too~ so, jgn dengar dorang. dengar BAPAK dia terus!! eh? i was obviously kidding lah~
u-know-what-i’m-sayin?
sabar, cik. jgn takut. i do have all of radiohead’s CD’s. 😆
what i’m trying to say here is that, IF malaysian band have no originality, fine! just dont go and puja-puji band negara lain yg tidak ketinggalan hanya pandai meniru karya org lain, and obviously no originality too… eh? again i’m just kidding… they’re brilliant!
it’s ok. don’t have to kid. if you mean what you wrote, i’m cool with it! 🙂
Errr… kalau macam tu, kita takleh dengar apa2 kecuali Robert Johnson pasal Robert Johnson popularised blues which went on to popularise jazz then rock n roll, then pop, then punk, then rock, then heavy metal, then grunge, then alternative, then nu metal, then …. oh no! Macam mana nih? That’s the true BAPAK.
C’mon. Music is not yours, nor mine, nor any band’s, be it an American band, Indon band, or Malaysian band. You have to draw upon influences. If you want to be really strict about it, there’s probably just a handful of people yang betul2 original – R.J., Django Reindhart, Chuck Berry, The Jimi Hendrix Experience… Lain tu semua tiruan.
But some people tiru by adding value to the music. Some people don’t. I’m saying Pop Shuvit don’t. Disagree don’t. Butterfingers does. And Dewa does so by being able to (on a smaller scale) fuse Beatle-esque grandeur, Brian May-ish guitars, Radiohead-like progressions and simply good singing. Of course they’re not original, but Pop Shuvit’s been out with a few singles, and please tell me two other bands they sound like apart from LB? No way am I pro-American or pro-music barat.
Anyway, I do listen to R.J., so that’s OK. And I’m not kidding this time around.
music is something that belongs to everybody. agree with that! just please next time dont talk about originality when u know there’s none… enjoy je lah! just dont get me wrong… kidding this time? u bet…
to kid or not to kd. which one now? hahaha. 😆 caya lah… got debate. as the emperor would say, “good. good…”.
next time dont talk about originality when u know there’s none… enjoy je lah!
just playing devil’s advocate since we have a healthy discussion here – following your quote above, you were initially bemoaning DEWA’s lack (or absence) of originality (re: trabye’s blog)… and like, the neon, i’m not kidding either. 🙂
