At last. After what seemed an eternity following my last bike ride, I revisited the Peaks at the Derwent Reservoir with some mates. Here’s proof:

From my last blog entry regarding the bike ride in ’06, I described doing the circuit in just over two hours (with break). Today, I had two very short breaks, not including pumping the rear wheel twice, which Nik suspects has a slow leak. After five years (not six!) and a few extras kilos later, I did the circuit in an hour forty-five minutes. I think I did fine. The Altura padded pants helped and not forgetting the fact this is my bike‘s first ever venture into the wilderness (of sorts). Loved the handling and the disc brakes gave me the extra confidence in making sure I will stop. Heh.

The GPS reception was kinda fair according to my iPhone. Hence, I tried switching the Runkeeper app (it’s not limited to running – it records all manner of activities from swimming to cycling, hence this app comes highly recommended!) and it did work for the first 2.76 km. I wasn’t sure whether there was no signal or whether it was due to me shifting the stuff in my backpack to get the camera out for the shot above. This meant the description for today’s ride was drastically cut short. I had added the first half of the ride using the edit option but it ain’t the same with the app recording every nuance of the ride throughout.

I have since invested in an iPhone holder for the bike. Let’s hope I could get the full ride’s readout with this!
