i’ve waxed lyrical on this subject before. i’m simply alluding to the fact that when i return to KL for a break, i find that the things i do with my friends differ on a generation-to-generation basis. let’s take a quick look at what i’ve done so far. for the most part, i go for makan, but said activity is pretty universal.

so, with my recently-graduated-from-college mates, we’d try to check out the local gigs. with my old sheffield mates, it’d be pontificating on the virtues of classic guitars and discussion on investments over drinks at rasta.

which brings me to friends of my age group. golf, you say? i don’t play. however, there’s this other activity, which makes me shudder to think, that i may get be asked to participate in. i did it anyway, as i’ve not seen this bunch for a long while.

yes, i went to カラオケ friday night.

i personally avoided カラオケ mostly due my perceived stigma attached to it. my uncle has an LD set up at his home and dad was known to croon a few tunes at family do’s. but when it comes to thirty-somethings, sans wives, at such establishments, everything changes. i’m no prude. in fact, if i were to indulge in… err, subversive… activities, it’ll be just me that’s affected. sendiri buat sendiri tanggung, beb.

friday night was clean. really. one of my friends who was there i know. mr. clean. another brought his missus. the room we had was cold as fcuk. probably requires a few shots and jugs of anchor (among other methods) to warm one up. my brother gave me some advice – get ready 5 songs before you turn up, makes it real easy. the song selection process was quite funny. english songs were under foreign. we could choose songs sung in malay, chinese and, get this… phillipinal. one thing i learnt was, no matter how well you know a song, it doesn’t mean you can sing it. especially coming from me, mr. play-guitar-but-do-not-sing. i did enjoy myself, more so from the company. would i rush to another one of this? most likely no. hahahaha.

my brother also told me to observe something: you’d know your friends have reached tahap uncle if they choose frankie’s my way. wasn’t me.
