yes, i admit it. i am still suffering from withdrawal symptoms following my short trip to paris last month (unlike my pro-iberian blogger friend). i wasn’t like this after my nine-day five spanish cities trip (read: i wasn’t watching almodovar or cuaron in 2006). i’ve always loved the language and, yes, when i was in university, we watched french films that happened to have lots of sex. or was it because we chose the films that had lots of sex (everyone then had a beatrice dalle poster on their wall, even though there were prettier french actresses 😀 ).

i got this gem of a film for less than a fiver online. the premise of the film is basically love – in any form. directed by a total of 20-odd directors, there are 18 shorts, each based on a particular arrondissement of paris. my favourite short was by the coen brothers which had steve buscemi in it, playing a tourist with a penchant of la joconde getting himself into a spot of bother in the tuileries metro station (i was there!). there were a few surprises (for me lah, as i didn’t read the cast list on the DVD cover) – not only there are big names directing, the likes of juliette binoche, gerard depardieu, nick nolte, elijah wood and natalie portman are also in the film. and speaking of cuaron, he did one too – in which the short was a continuous shot of nick nolte and a young french woman (played by the delectable ludivine sagnier) having a somewhat argumentative conversation whilst walking in the parc monceau area that ends in an unexpected twist in five minutes (all the shorts were of that length). and watch out for willem dafoe as a cowboy – in the middle of place des victoires (i was there too!). love the song by feist too.

the producers have finished a sequel to this project based in NYC called, well, new york, i love you. out this year apparently.
