I was there.

I had developed a (very) short-lived interest in local theatre, thanks to an old friend from school. A Samad Said’s Lantai T Pinkie took the cake for the most difficult piece of work for me to understand. I thought the story had too much content, lacked a direction – probably due to it’s long-ish play length (more than 2 hours iirc), made worse by the character names typically seen in the sastera section of the SPM Bahasa Malaysia paper. And what the heck is a gul bakawali (it’s a bunga apparently)?
The play had a stellar cast – Tiara Jacquelina playing the titular character, together with the likes of Erma Fatima, Umie Aida and the late Hani Mohsin. I recently tried to read a summary and this post somewhat summarises it – https://nmsspace.blogspot.com/2014/10/lantai-t-pinkie.html
Paham la sikit-sikit. Kot.
My brother actually walked alongside A Samad Said on the way out during intermission, when Said actually said, “It’s a bit long, isn’t it?”.
The play was directed by the late Rosminah Tahir.
