I have a new favourite breakfast spot in town now. You may recall a previous post about the Kiwi-run coffee place off West Street which I alluded about its sister eaterie at Sellers Wheel on Arundel Street.

Tamper at Sellers Wheel is in a converted workhouse with a reception that houses the coffee bar where you could order your flat white to go. The dining area is large but on a Sunday morning it can get real busy. So, I’d recommend turning up at 10 am to avoid disappointment. If you have a large group of people you could make a reservation and get the board room which is just next to the coffee bar. Tamper Sellers Wheel opens daily but only opens til 4 pm. They do a few evening events but you need to book for this.

Thus far, I’ve only been for breakfast and my favourite is the eggs Benedict – two eggs with the runniest yolk (yum) on toasted muffins, a hash brown, hollandaise sauce and buttered spinach. Added seasoning of ground black pepper and ground sea salt are placed neatly on the board/plate, and I have mine with smoked salmon and a side of mushrooms. Two flat whites with this and I can forgo lunch. I have tried the 4-cheese omelette which was okay but the eggs Benedict pawns it big time. For big eaters, there’s the Big Kiwi but unfortunately the vegetarian option of it is such that the eggs Benedict wins again. I once brought an old friend and his family, and the kids’ option were somewhat cool like the half boiled egg and soldiers that comes with a small bottle of fresh milk with a red-white stripey straw.

Some people have said that Tamper is a tad pricey, but I say you get what you pay for. I think £2.30 for a flat white is fine as long as it tastes fantastic. Have a try – you’ll defo love it.

Where do you go for lobster in Sheffield? Loch Fyne on Glossop Road does a whole 1lb baked lobster as a main.

I swore I couldn’t find it in their online menu last year which led me to bring dad all the way to Leeds to have it. The restaurant is an upmarket seafood chain which is housed in what used to be the famous Hanrahan’s. I didn’t really have to reserve a table but with it being a Friday night I wasn’t taking any chances. We were ushered by the manager herself to the bar whilst our table was being sorted. I noted that that they do take aways (posh fish ‘n’ chips come to mind) and you could even buy fresh fish! The manager went through the specials they had on offer but both of us knew what we were gonna have anyway.

The lobster was halved (had to use a cracker for the claws, though) and a lobster pick to tease the flesh out from the nooks and crannies was included, but once we got stuck in, an alien invasion could’ve happened and we were none the wiser. The lobster came with mayo and fries. It wasn’t a thermidor, but the garlic butter used to bake the lobster was absolutely gorgeous. On the side, I ordered rocket and parmesan with balsamic vinegar which was fine – I guess I was paying too much attention on the lobster to take much notice of everything else.

One thing about eating lobster is that you have to realise the main bulk of its flesh is in the claws and tail. Everything is a chore, really. But the flavour of the baked crustacean is so divine, that I’d go through all this bother again, any time!

The dessert menu is worth checking out. We both had the crème brûlée which came with two wee shortbreads and a cappuccino with a square of fudge on the side.
