よふかしのうた CALL OF THE NIGHT
コトヤマ KOTOYAMA
Shonen Sunday/VIZ
Shōnen rom-com / Comedy / Supernatural

Amazon is quick.

I admit that I was intrigued by this title after seeing pictures of this vampire with a squint online.

Nazuna is this season’s best girl.

After trying out episode of the anime on NETFLIX (Japan, via a VPN but no Eng subs though), I thought I’d check out the manga – I love KOTOYAMA’s (Dagashi Kashi) grittier art style and lots of shadows (the series is mainly set at night) as compared to cleaner outlines you get with others.

PREMISE Yamori Ko is a middle schooler with insomnia. Ko started to not attend school and began to wander around at night feeling a new sense of quiet freedom, until he meet Nazuna in front of a vending machine. To cut a long story short it wasn’t long that Ko discovered that Nazuna’s a vampire. Thinking by turning into a vampire himself to get himself out of his ennui, Ko gets closer to Nazuna but becoming a vampire isn’t that simple as he soon finds out.

Copies of the manga by VIZ Media are still in print, all are available (volume 5 may be a problem) and volume 8 is out soon. And the anime from LIDENFILMS (Tokyo Revengers) directed by Itamura Tomoyuki (Nisemonogatari) is just sublime. Just check out the OP and ED by Creepy Nuts. Also, the title of the manga is taken from the song title as KOTOYAMA is a friend of the band!

Not a bad discovery for following up on an image of a quirky lass with squint!
