yo! sushi
a popular conveyor belt sushi eaterie (kaitenzushi) in the country, this lunch time was my second ever visit. by the way, the comment about conveyor belt sushi wasn’t made by me – don’t shoot the messenger lah. whilst i preferred the stuff at samsi or wasabisabi, the sushi here (had the toromaki and sake nigiri) is pretty decent (sorry, sushi king doesn’t come close) – you can see the sushi chefs making them fresh in front of you. there’s a button on the table which summons a waitress and for drinks, just dip into the drinks bucket near your booth.
whilst the sushi variety is pretty much the same as you would at any sushi eaterie, the soft shell crab temaki is ace and comes highly recommended. some branches, like this one in nottingham, actually do deliveries!
east & west
this is a small south indian thosai (they call them dosa here, in hindi) place on abbeydale road in sheffield where you can eat the chicken one. the setup is pretty much a takeaway with a few tables.
i had the kerala prata combo (pretty much roti canai x2 and kari ayam) which was somewhat disappointing. the prata tasted like it was made the day before and microwaved subsequently and the chicken curry serving was somewhat paltry. as the place is touted as a thosai eaterie, the thosai serving was generous. that aside, the cheap price was an added plus.
le pain quotidien
this is a belgian eaterie which prides on its organic bread. had some breakfast at the st pancras international store whilst waiting for some friends a few days after christmas. in the morning, it can be packed with passengers, most of whom are waiting for the eurostar. my breakfast was a little over a tenner which is somewhat pricey. i thought the scrambled eggs were a tad dry but the croissant was gorgeous. my large cappucino was served in a bowl, as they do in france when they serve their grande cafés. the waiters may seem a bit abrupt but i’ve no complaints otherwise.
if you are in a rush to catch a morning train and can’t afford a sit in brekkie, a few metres down the station is benugo which serves lovely made-to-order sarnies. try the crayfish. yum.
“the prata tasted like it was made the day before and microwaved subsequently and the chicken curry serving was somewhat paltry” ha ha ha tapi capati dia boleh tahan gak kudo!
haha, lupa plak pasal chapatti!
love the placement of GUIT in the pix.. and belgian milk spread? apa rasa itu?
this entry tak berbayar, in case you’re wondering. 😀
no – i didn’t try it. didn’t think it’d go well with what i had.
