i was on the train last sunday when i saw the odd university student fervently working on essays/revising for an upcoming paper. not surprisingly, memories of uni days long gone came back to me.

i have only done coursework on a train just the once during the michaelmas term of my first year at med school. it was the second essay for the term on blood cells which we had the entire vacation to work on it. but being the typical student i was, it wasn’t til’ the last night before the submission date that i earnestly began working on it. on a train from london to newcastle. pandai.

as i was perusing the lecture notes on the constituents released by a neutrophil on the unsuspecting pathogen, i saw two lovely lasses entering the coach. one of them began talking to one of the passengers. probably a friend from uni, i thought. she gave him a kiss and then walked down the aisle, only to stop by me.

“hi there. it’s my birthday today, can i have a kiss?” she said.

[i was like… *wow*]

“err… okay,” i replied.

and she planted a nice one on me. on the lips.

i was just about to bask in my glory when her friend said, “can i have one too?”

she bent over and i had another one.

now, at that time, newcastle was like an hour and a bit away. what did i get for the essay? a C minus, i think.
