the ubiquitous roti canai. everyone swears by their own favourite roti canai joint. as they say, different streaks for different freaks. for the longest time, i have heard of raju’s in PJ. as usual, being in boarding school / abroad meant missing brekkie trips with mates (which i’m sure you take for granted, with all the best tempat makan around). to add insult to injury, when i ask my family members, they’d tell me “yeah, dah pegi dah. ketam dia $15 sekor!”, followed by me going oi oi how come i wasn’t there.
so, when the grasshopper (defunct)/corporate sellout (defunct as well) asked if i wanna have sunday breakfast at either raju’s or some other place the location of which i cannot recall, i knew where i wanted to go.
it’s off jalan gasing and on arrival it was reminiscent of my family’s old thosai/roti canai haunt at sri grand city on section 11 before mom passed on. as far as i was concerned, it’ll just be another roti canai joint, with a slight expectation especially after hearing people raving about it. roadside parking is somewhat sporadic, especially with strategically-placed cones keep off would be customers. bawah pokok is the place to be at (because that’s where most people would makan, from the taunting facebook photos i’ve seen -_- ).

Funnily enough, my first visit to Raju’s was also on a Sunday morning. Must say, the fare was good, but it was the ambiance of the daun pisangness of it all that made it feel like I was somewhere special.
i miss raju’s. here the roties are crap (mostly).
Man I look fat. Apa masalah aku nak mendada tu.
And wei, I think my tamil was not bad okay. (dah jamak)
did i say your tamil was bad? haha.
Oops. Malu lah pulak.
Anuar that’s you ah? :D:D:D
I remember this place, my mum calls it the ‘kedai bawah pokok tu’. Lama tak makan sana. My mum used to go there after work in UM. Someday I hope to work in UH and have my afternoon tea there too.
Pickyin: yup, that would be me from the neck down.
