Music selection has been pretty retro these past couple of weeks.

First up is Queen. For some reason or other, I forgot to add this glam rock supremos in my old skool playlist on my iTunes / iPod. I also managed to procure a copy of the News of the World vinyl from 1977 (number 10 of the top ten Queen albums voted by MOJO).

Next up is an array of 1980’s music. I was caught in the new wave frenzy of the early 80’s, much to my dismay (thank god for my discovery of all things rock when I turned 16!). I don’t know what triggered this trip into memory lane. Muat-turuned a few of the New Romantic hits II never got to really listen to, like A Flock of Seagull‘s I Ran and Visage‘s Fade to Grey.

Duran Duran was the band of that era, hands down. I have to say despite the ponciness of their synth-based post-punk (funnily enough, that is how new wave music was referred to as) music, it sounded rocking live (note to TrabyeAs the Lights Go Down was actually a promo, hence the inavailability of the video/DVD). I actually saw them (the original lineup with the three Taylors) live two years ago… err, lots of women there. 30-odd year old women. Whaddaya expect? I’ll probably do a retrospective review of the gig soon (I’ve got a few other old gigs that I’d love to write reviews on as well, so watch this space).

So, there it is. Pity France’s non-victory was further marred by Zidane’s kambing incident with tit-twisting (?) Materazzi. It was a good evening for the Italians, although it would’ve been better if it wasn’t won the way it was tonight. 1994 could’ve happened again! Forza Azzuri nonetheless.
