how do people choose which football team to support?
okay, if you were born in spital tongues or scotswood, you are most likely to support the magpies, but what about malaysians?
i know of malaysians who are staunch supporters of teams like manchester city, tottenham hotspurs and everton. whilst we know of the obvious cop outs when new footie fans who choose to support the likes of man u and chelsea, like the cynna-going babe going on how much she supports brazil in the world cup because of kaka (here comes the generalisations again – ed.), i wonder what made these non-brits support a team from a city they’ve never lived in. of course, there is the tradition of some of these clubs regardless of how well/badly they fared in the season, but i don’t see anyone claiming they are ardent fans of leicester, doncaster or stoke city. was there a life event that triggered the passion of loving one particular team?
answers in the comments section as per usual thank you.

i’ve alluded to reading junk recently and it was only like a couple of weeks ago that i finally got to listen to the free CD that came with each ish. suffice to say that there is some really good music out there, from malaysia and around the region. my current favourite is hujan‘s pagi yang gelap and singapore’s the great spy experiment‘s class ‘A’ love affair.
so all is not lost, really.

on the same note, i would like to point out that i enjoyed top of the pop (which explains why bubby and flo sounded the way they did at that gig in 1999), although i didn’t really like the monotony of rock N roll (track 2). track 3 was brill, though.
see what happens when you sing in bahasa malaysia?

for the first time in my life, i discovered the joys of kitchen and bathroom appliances. and the potential pain of paying for them. before anyone makes any comments about which team i am playing for, wait til you see the throng of female brazil supporters (see the above generalisation) making a beeline in front of the door, yo.
and where to put the bravia and PS3 eh?
then again, before i start thinking too far ahead, i need to buy a bed to sleep in first.
Believe it or not, I came to support Manchester United because of a cute ginger boy in my class when I was 8 (I was going to say redhead, but ‘cute redhead’ had a different connotation to it). So yes, way before Cantona and co came by, I (quite shamfully now) admit that I wanted Fergie out because we were winning nothing. I also remember Jesper Olsen, and Kevin Moran being the first player to be sent off in an FA Cup Final. Those were the days when we got to watch footy on BBC1 Live, and the Premiership (and Sky TV) was a mere twinkle in Rupert Murdoch’s bifocals. But yes, because I’m a girl and I’m not yet 35, people assume it’s because of Beckham or Cantona or the inaugural Premiership trophy. Sukatilah. Janji team aku menang, team korang kalah.
BTW bro, kau patut sokong Sheffield United. Esok korang lawan kitorang (i.e. Colchester United) kat Bramall Lane, kick off 1500 – aku dah sampai situ, kau dah sampai?
west ham!
btw, kalau aku duduk bournemouth aku kena sokong mana?^_^
AFC Bournemouth – currently in League 1.
Kalau kau nak Premiership team paling dekat Portsmouth kot.
pagi yang gelap..kini sudah terang..aku adikmu..dan engkau abang…
i got the chicken pox back in ’85. I was at home watching Dunia Sukan on Tv3 pukul 2 ptg…
It was showing highlights on an Everton win against the manure. I liked the blue top… that was it, I was hooked!
And now I am in Kota Kinabalu, in my hotel room listening to the website while Everton play Wigan for the opening match for the 2007/2008 season.. and yes, we are leading 😛
Old man’s a City fan so I grew up following him follow them. He once told me that if I ever wanted to turn my back on him, remember these two things he was responsible for..
1. Saving me from the agony of undergoing circumcision as a kid.. as I had mine when I was 3 days old.
2. Making me a supporter of the greatest football club in the whole wide world.
supporters of man city and everton have spoken!!! more! more!
The first time I watched football as a wee lad was in the latter part of the 1980s, and I happened to start by watching the Serie A that was shown on Sundays on one of the Malaysian terrestrial channels. That was during the era of Baresi and a relatively inexperienced defender by the name of Paolo Maldini, as well as the peak of the Dutch trio of Van Basten, Rijkaard and Gullit.
Fell in love with the Rosseneri then, been a staunch supporter ever since! Visiting the San Siro a few years back was almost like a pilgrimage of sorts 😉
congratulations on new toy. went through the kitchen phase. presently drooling over http://www.roomandboard.com website for bed/sofa. life is cruel.
Perhaps it depends on how one looks at football clubs – as a team whose exploits you support and cheer on, or as an entertainment brand you consume.
Fact is, a lot of European and certainly most EPL football teams are more of a brand package internationally. They’re a consumer product more than anything. As such, for a lot of people, supporting a football club probably means as much to them as preferring Coca-Cola over Pepsi.
I’d LIKE to think I’m a true-red Liverpool supporter, but I perhaps I kid myself. Maybe I’m just a consumer of good football (don’t laugh) and I just have extremely strong brand loyalty.
as u know lah kan, i dont support any team (esp team omputih ni semua). i tengok bola purely for entertainment. so, sapa yg sepak bola, baju kaler apa pakai, tak kisah. yg penting, the aksi.
nway, side tracking… surely u kenal band WYZER (from Leeds kalau tak silap). they r performing at this year Msia Carnival (1st Sept). mengikut description hamba terima, they play contemporary + pop. kalau korang nak join, gimme a buzz lah (sori, short notice). ada satu jazz band in addition to the Leeds guys.

it’s magpies for me since my brother was in newc once upon a time and they’ve got a cool windbreaker… yes, i got one!
