On the rare occasions I take the train to work[1], I would come upon a vendor selling coffee on the pedestrianised Howard Street just near Sheffield Hallam University. There is always a short queue of would-be train commuters waiting for their coffee and I found that, due to me rushing to get to the station, I almost always could never stop to buy a brew.

It wasn’t until one nice sunny (but chilly) morning that I found myself having some ample time to spare before catching my train that I finally got to try out the coffee. The place is called Motore Café and is in the form of a dark blue Piaggio Apé. The back of the Piaggio housed the espresso machine. Reading the café’s blackboard signage, it appears that the beans they use are sourced from local roasters in Sheffield. On the little makeshift stall behind the Piaggio were jars of Italian-styled pastries.

My cappuccino was served in a take-away cup with a lid and it’s always a pity that this practical aspect of having coffee to go pretty much obscures any coffee art[2]. I thought my cappuccino was pretty good. As I walked down towards the station in the chilly winter morning’s air, I thought of turning up a bit early for another cup to go.

Motore Café is open Monday-Friday from 7:30AM to 2:30PM.

[1]I should really take the train more often as it is somewhat relaxing.
[2]I might be wrong but I could’ve sworn the vendor/barista did one for the patron in front of me.
