felicini
This is a chain serving “Italian-inspired cuisine” which is limited (they’ve only seven eateries) to the northwest and the Midlands, interestingly. They pride themselves in preparing their menu from the freshest of ingredients and since I had time to spare whilst the garage was replacing my S40′s control unit, I thought of giving this place a try since I was somewhat famished by then.

Being the boring sod I am, I had the dough balls for the antipasti – nothing new there, especially if you’re a fan of Pizza Express, although I daresay the serving of garlic butter was more generous here. I felt like a risotto and I noticed a crayfish risotto in the chef’s special of the day. The serving was just right, portion-wise, topped with fresh rocket. They didn’t stinge on the crayfish and for once, the cream wasn’t too overpowering. Finished the meal with a Malteser choc shake (large crushed chunks of it) and I’ve to say the place is worth a re-visit, especially when it’s only five minutes from my house! SRI AYUTTHAYA
I usually frown at eateries serving local fare at well-heeled establishments (I give eating kueh kesui bought at Suria KLCC as an example). I yield to the point that is unfair to state that our local delicacies do not deserve to be served in a posh (*shudder*) eaterie, but when one is so used to eating the good stuff from stalls by the longkang at the local pasar malam, you can’t blame me for having such an opinion. I had the pleasure of having iftar at this restaurant in Damansara Heights on the last day of puasa (the family’s been here on a few festive occasions sans yours truly) and I’ve to say I was pleasantly surprised.

Taking a step back, the Thai fare is typical, but I am impressed with the size of the portions served (note the size-centric comments in this entry thus far). Typical here means the obligatory green curry (Kaeng khiaowan), ?pandan chicken (Kai ho bai toei), deep fried ikan and tom yam, with loads of fragrant rice, washed down by a faux pina colada made of the sweetest santan (nice, but a bit on the kuat side), and of course thap thim krop for dessert. Not bad, but if you can do it cheaper at the likes of Vicchuda at Damansara Utama… heh. [3 Jalan Setiapuspa, Medan Damansara, 50490 Kuala Lumpur]
