Well, with iOS 6 you pretty much are using the 5 if you have the 4s.

It took less than 20 minutes to get things rolling. Being the hentam saja kind of person, I downloaded and activated the new iOS for my iPhone sans backup. No hal. For all you Apple pundits, you should know what the new iOS does. As a 4s user, I was really looking forward to these new features:

1. Panorama

Well, as it says on the box – my horizons are broadened. Unfortunately, my first ever panoramic shot was indoors and in the dark media room to boot. But the fact that it works is good enough. I guess it’s meant for proper outdoor shots. As you can see, when things are up close you get some spatial distortion for obvious reasons.

2. Map

Who needs a TomTom now eh? The new map has turn-by-turn spoken navigation and automatically reroutes you immediately if you decide to take a different turning instead of the recommended one.

And the Flyover feature is only present in a few cities. It does look kinda weird in a distorted PS2 FMV kind of way actually. In the UK, London gets it while us mortals in South Yorkshire have to contend with, err… 3D, where the map can be tilted and rotated to your heart’s content.

3. Siri

It never worked when I asked her where I could get to buy lunch as she’d kindly tell me that it was not possible to provide locations of nearby eateries outside the United States. Since it didn’t work, I had her speak in Japanese.

Anyway until I asked “Pizza” this evening and with iOS 6 Shiri-chan kindly told me to choose between Pizza Pan & Grill and Raja’s.

Result!

There are the other features which I’m yet to try out, like the shared photostream and texting a caller when declining an incoming call, but those will come in due course.

Bak kata P. Ramlee, “How nice!!!”
